Photos of the day: Meet Rutland Tea Co

By Matt Wright

These photos were taken on March 9 for an upcoming feature in the magazine.

Anna and Richard Wench are the couple behind the Rutland Tea Company, which is mainly an online business but also has a small area in Fords of Oakham (Church St).

Anna’s from the Ukraine and is utterly passionate about tea, although Richard made a pretty mean cup on the day (not a teabag in sight, of course).

Opening one of their metal tins is fantastic – you’re met with such an intense array of aromas. On sale are a huge variety of black, green, white and Rooibos teas.

Anna’s personal favourite? Bolivian Organic Green Tea, while Richard is a fan of the Sikkim 2nd Flush ‘Temi’. I couldn’t seem to find any Tetley on my visit.

It all made me realise that there’s a whole world of teas out there waiting to be discovered.
