Loafing Bakery & Café in Wheathampstead is a warm, family-run place on the High Street. This is a great balance of artisan flair and community charm.
They take coffee seriously here. Their coffee is all from single origin beans which ensures a uniqueness of flavour but a consistency and traceability. It’s also just really good!
But you can’t say you’ve experienced Loafing until you’ve tried something baked. Whether it’s a sourdough loaf or a fresh baguette, everything is baked with care and to a very high standard. Yes get a loaf to take away, or grab a filled baguette or a flavoured sourdough toastie for lunch. There’s plenty of pastries on offer too – sausage rolls, pasties, croissants, and also sweet treats such as brownies or apple strudel.
Loafing’s always busy – even in colder months you’ll find walkers or cyclists sitting outside enjoying a snack and watching the world go by. There’s also a little terrace overlooking the river. But there’s never any stress with the staff. Always friendly and helpful and it’s that blend of character and efficiency that makes Loafing a lovely place to visit.
Nice people, running a high quality business – high recommended!
