Mad Squirrel

Mad Squirrel Brewery was founded in 2010, when Greg Blesson and Jason Duncan-Anderson decided to shift from wine into beer. The UK craft beer scene was starting to grow and they spotted an opportunity.

The brewery at Boxted Farm near Hemel Hempstead, started with a small, mix and match, second hand brew kit, which produced just 50,000 litres in its first year. The early focus was on traditional cask ales. But as their popularity grew, they moved into craft beer and even changed their name from “Red Squirrel” to “Mad Squirrel,” signalling a shift towards a more contemporary offering.

These days, the brewery has evolved dramatically and now produces over one million litres annually. They have a wide core range: from stouts and porters to pale ales and pilsners, including their flagship: Sumo.

Not only are there a great range of beers widely available in delis and supermarkets, they have a number of taprooms across Herts and into Bucks including at St Albans City FC! Plus you’ll often see the Craft Beer Cruiser out and about at festivals and events.
