Brew Garden, Hertford

Brew Garden in the middle of Hertford is a great spot to drop in for a coffee or a bite to eat. It’s a sophisticated urban spot in the middle of this historic county town.

Founded by Luciano Franchi, the place has serious credibility when it comes to its coffee. Luciano’s family have three generations in the Italian food industry, most recently operating Caffè Vergnano 1882.

The Brew Garden journey started in early 2002 with the goal of creating a true Italian coffee experience in London. And it’s working! Not only are their two branches (Hertford and High Holborn) thriving, but they also supply coffee to the Italian Embassy! As it’s legitimately Italian, it’s not just espressos and cappuccinos on the menu. There is a huge range of coffee options including Espresso Giacometta (with meringue and whipped cream) or Corretto (with grappa). They only use 100% organic arabica beans for every drop, and the quality really shines through.

There’s also a huge range of teas and infusions, hot chocolates, mocktails, cocktails and wines. Plus “brew” doesn’t just mean coffee at Brew Garden. They also serve craft beers from their own microbrewery including Brew Garden Midnight and Afterlife.

Food wise, there are lots of pastries, ciabatta sandwiches to take away with your morning coffee. But if you’re looking to eat in, there are meat and cheese sharing platters, antipasto or a great range of pizzas. Be sure to try the Trevigiana, the Brew Garden signature pizza: bechamel, gorgonzola, Parma ham and walnuts!

So if you’re in Hertford looking for somewhere for a morning coffee, a casual lunch or a post-work beer, Brew Garden should be on your list!
