Shortlist

The top public vote-winners:

The Haybarn at Kneesall, Nottinghamshire
Burrough Court Coffee Shop, Burrough on the Hill, Leicestershire
Six Hills Café, Bakery & Pizzeria, Six Hills, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire
Cosy Cafe, Hinckley, Leicestershire

The winner is Six Hills Café, Bakery & Pizzeria – a roadside cafe & bakery by the A46 with a Sicilian theme.

From the outside, it’s an unremarkable roadside diner. But walk inside and you’ll find a Sicilian bakery offering top-quality pastries alongside well-cooked full English breakfasts, bacon rolls and more. And on Fridays and Saturdays, Six Hills turns into a pizzeria, firing out authentic Italian pizzas. Regular Sicilian Sunday lunches and pasta nights take place, too.

The hard-working and talented chef-owner Melo hails from Sicily and arrived in Leicester in 1997 with £80 to his name. Our judges were impressed by the fact that Melo has taken a humble café in an unremarkable location and turned it into something that’s unique and vibrant, where the food does the talking. No wonder Six Hills has so many loyal fans.

Congratulations to all four shortlisted businesses.
