The GFC People’s Choice Award is the annual gong that goes to the business that garnered the highest number of votes overall during the public voting phase of the awards.

This year, Hambleton Bakery – a wonderful local success story – earned the People’s Choice Award through an overwhelming number of votes from our community. Since opening in 2008, Hambleton Bakery has transformed how many of us experience bread, enriching our lives with its traditionally made, additive-free loaves.

Founded by celebrated baker Julian Carter and restaurateur Tim Hart, Hambleton Bakery started as a way to supply their own restaurants with high-quality bread. Since then, the bakery has grown to operate seven shops and one café across the Midlands, gaining many loyal fans who can’t get enough of its authentic, slow-fermented breads.

Julian Carter (above), a tenth generation baker, has a passion for sharing his craft with his team and customers and has been a cornerstone of Hambleton Bakery’s success. Co-founder Tim Hart, known for his ventures like Hambleton Hall, helped turn their shared vision into a thriving business.

Celebrated for its dedication to traditional bread-making methods, Hambleton Bakery uses the best local ingredients and no additives. Their range of breads, cakes and savouries reflects a commitment to quality that’s made them a favourite across the region. A defining moment came in 2012 when Hambleton Bakery won ITV’s Britain’s Best Bakery, solidifying their status as one of the UK’s top artisan producers.

Their philosophy is simple but powerful: “Time is the most important ingredient.”

By focusing on long fermentations and natural processes, Hambleton Bakery’s breads are healthier and more flavourful than mass-produced alternatives.

From small beginnings to impressive regional success, Hambleton Bakery is a true people’s favourite and a deserving winner of this year’s GFC People’s Choice Award!
