People’s Choice Award: Great Food Club Awards 2022/23

The GFC’s People’s Choice Award is a new award that goes to the business with the highest number of votes.

The winner of the GFC People’s Choice Award 2022/23 is The Vegetarian Rasoi in West Bridgford, Nottingham – a popular takeaway providing authentic vegetarian and vegan Indian meals. The Rasoi is clearly doing brilliant things and smashed the popular vote!

The Vegetarian Rasoi is run by Meena and Jatinder Hanspal, who set it up five years ago as a monthly supper club. Today, they offer their delicious homecooked Indian vegetarian food weekly, operating as a West Bridgford-focused delivery and takeaway every Friday.

It’s not surprising they have so many fans because they are a pillar of the local community. In January 2022, Meena was awarded a British Empire Medal for services to the Sikh Community, particularly for her work at Guru Nanak’s Mission Nottingham, which delivers around 90 hot meals a week to people in need. The Vegetarian Rasoi crew also regularly visit local schools to show kids the joys and benefits of home cooking.

This business has excellent local heritage too: Jatinder’s mother opened Nottingham’s first vegetarian restaurant in the 1980s – The Vegetarian Pot.
