Secret Diner Review: Casa Romana, Leicester

After a morning spent shopping in a sweltering city centre, I have just enjoyed a wonderful al fresco lunch on the tiny rooftop of the Casa Romano restaurant in Leicester. Sitting in this oasis of calm and drinking a glass of chilled white wine, I savoured a simple yet wonderfully flavoursome dish of Aubergine Parmigiana. The food was simply cooked to bring out the key flavours of fried aubergine layered with tomatoes, basil, mozzarella cheese and Parmesan. This was perfect food for a hot summer’s day.

Casa Romana must be one of the best kept secrets among discerning local diners but I am now feeling so at one with the world that I am sharing it. Hidden away in a quiet back street it is easy to miss the small door leading into the restaurant but once inside you will find a vibrant Italian restaurant serving traditional Italian food and at extremely reasonable prices. There is a wide choice of dishes on the menu and also a daily specials board of seasonal fish dishes. Give it a try!
