The Barley Mow at Bonsall

The Barley Mow at Bonsall is a true one-off. Quirky, cosy and packed with personality, this atmospheric one-room pub was named Best Pub in Derbyshire by The Telegraph in 2025. We visited after hearing great things and found a place full of warmth, laughter, music and mouthwatering homemade food.

Expect proper, hearty dishes cooked with care – just what you want to eat in a rural Derbyshire pub. The steak & ale pie comes in buttery shortcrust pastry with creamy mash and rich gravy. The “Luxury Boozy Beef Lasagne” is loaded with red wine, pecorino and béchamel sauce. Veggies are well catered for too – the Dahl Darling is a fragrant, comforting bowl of lentils, coconut and spice.

Landlords Colette and Mick have built something special. Colette – also lead singer of funk and soul band Mancuso – brings vibrant energy, especially on music nights.

They even host the World Hen Racing Championship in the car park. Like we said – a proper one-off!
