Started in 1993 by two friends – Hal Wilson and Brett Turner, who are still the sole shareholders – Cambridge Wine Merchants has been winning awards ever since. These include one of the International Wine Challenge’s (the world’s biggest wine competition) top accolades – Merchant of the Year – as well as the title of “UK’s No. 1 Independent Drinks Retailer” (three times).
Cambridge Wine Merchants is one of the biggest independent vintners in the country and in addition to its four Cambridge outlets (of which this Bridge Street shop is one) it also runs franchises in Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire, and is continuing to grow. In 2013, the brand established a wine bar by Cambridge University’s Magdalene Bridge, which seats 70.
