The Ancient Shepherds opened in July 2025. Located in the village of Fen Ditton, just three miles outside Cambridge, this restaurant brings together exceptional food, community focus and relaxed hospitality in a beautifully restored 16th-century building.
Ancient Shepherds offers a tasting-menu-only format, with three, five or seven-course options available. The approach allows the kitchen to reduce waste, change menus regularly and maintain the highest standards of creativity and consistency. Summer dishes include wakame-cured cod with tomato and elder ponzu, loin of hogget with tapenade purée and courgette, and pineapple parfait with fennel sorbet and meringue.
Ingredients are sourced from the restaurant’s own kitchen garden and a trusted network of suppliers.
The interiors blend soft Farrow & Ball tones with exposed brickwork, slate-topped tables and work by local artists. With 34 covers, minimal table décor and a relaxed lounge for pre- or post-dinner drinks, the atmosphere is refined but unstuffy.
Five on-site bedrooms complete the offering. Simple, comfortable and stylish, they are available with or without dinner and make an ideal base for exploring Cambridge.
