The Queen’s Head & Shop

The Queen’s Head is blessed with one of the best views in Leicestershire – across fields down to Saddington reservoir – and on a sunny day, the beer garden is a special place to be.

But it’s the food and service that also impresses at this village dining pub. Owner and head chef Chris Lewis-Sharman, who has over 25 years’ experience cooking in several high-end kitchens, has the ability to create inventive and impressive dishes using fresh and locally-sourced ingredients. His four menus (A La Carte, Snack, Sunday Lunch and Fixed Price) offer delights such as duo of rabbit (saddle and confit leg) with fondant potato and air-dried bacon crisp; and lemon and rosemary-infused chicken served on a chorizo, potato and baby spinach ragout; plus favourites like homemade burger, and Lincolnshire sausages with mash.

Most of the ingredients used in The Queen’s Head’s kitchen come from suppliers based in the East Midlands. For example, meat is sourced from Paul’s Butchers of Lutterworth and fruit and veg come from Nutty’s of Leicester.

The Queen’s Head’s dining room – set over three levels – is clean, bright and airy, with exposed brickwork and glass setting the tone. It’s a pleasant place in which to enjoy your food, but drinkers are also very welcome in this pub: at the front of the building is a traditional bar and lounge area, serving at least three real ales, including Everards Tiger and Beacon.

The Queen’s Head is also home to a food shop, and was created in partnership with pub owner Everards. The shop sells a range of produce made in the pub, including a beautiful selection of short-crust pies, plus pickles, jams and flavoured oils. This small pub shop also sells fresh vegetables, meats, bottled beers, cakes, and handy household essentials.
