Squisito Butchers & Provisions
Squisito is an award-winning producer of Italian food. Its Northamptonshire shop – an old Victorian butchers – showcases Squisito’s full handmade and handpicked range – and what a range! From gluten-free Italian sausages and local, free-range meat to pasta and dried herbs, Squisito produces and sells a jaw-dropping array of delicacies. Even more impressively, its own handmade stuff is made according to the guiding principles of the Slow Food movement.
“We make Italian food that’s fresh, local and seasonal,” says Sara Chambers, who runs Squisito with husband Alex. “Wherever possible, Squisito food is made to authentic Italian recipes with ingredients typical to its area of origin, but grown or reared locally in England. Over 85% of our ingredients are grown, reared and sourced within 35 miles of Squisito HQ.” Squisito is the only FARMA Farmers’ Market-accredited Italian food producer in the Midlands.
The shop also has an extensive cheese counter offering an eclectic Italian selection, French favourites and local Hamm Tun cheese – made in Northampton. The butchery section offers local free-range pork, beef and lamb from The Lost Farm, plus Fosse Meadows chicken. There’s organic biodynamic veg and bread and a selection of unique products from Squisito’s farmers’ market friends.
Sara and Alex’s many achievements – apart from making incredibly tasty food – include being shortlisted in the BBC Food & Farming Awards 2013, and winning the title of BBC Midlands Best Street Food 2013.
Squisito runs an Italian supper club and holds monthly sausage-making, smoking and curing courses. It caters for events and parties, including weddings.
