The Devonshire Arms

David and Samantha McHattie run the Devonshire Arms in Baslow (as well as the Bridge Inn at Calver) and their ethos is to deliver a great experience with excellent food and drink. This former coaching inn in the quaint village of Baslow has everything you could desire; excellent service, fabulous food, great drinks, tasteful décor, open fires and quality accommodation.

The Devonshire is a very stylish pub – contemporary fittings are paired with stone floors and solid wooden furniture. One of the walls is decorated with map wallpaper showing all the local villages, the lighting is ambient and there’s a roaring log burner, which adds to the atmosphere of this great country pub. To the rear of the pub is the circular restaurant, again beautifully decorated with ornate tiles, candles and contemporary lighting.

If you like wine, you’ll love it here, they pride themselves on offering a fantastic selection by the glass as well as by the bottle. Ales and lagers are kept perfectly and served with a smile. The drinks list also includes; cocktails, Champagne, gin, liqueurs, speciality tea and coffee. You can visit for breakfast from 8.30am, dishes include Full English, a variety of egg dishes, Derbyshire Oatcakes and American Pancakes, to name a few. Lunch and dinner options include well-loved classics and new creations with something to tantalise all taste buds. We love calling in here after walking around Chatsworth grounds and can highly recommend the Chicken and Ham Hock terrine, fishcakes, Mezze platters and their hanging kebabs. They also serve a scrumptious Sunday lunch and delicious desserts.

The Devonshire recommend and promote six local walks for guests to enjoy and, if you’re a bibliophile, they also run a regular book club. Recommended by The Telegraph in their article on ‘Perfect Pub Walks’ as one of the best pubs in the Peak District – we wholeheartedly agree, this is one of our most frequent and favourite after-walk establishments!

Please note – if you park in their car park, once you enter the venue you need to put your registration number into their system, so as not to get fined.
