Dining Pub of the Year: Great Food Club Awards 2020/21

Winner

The Stag & Hounds, Burrough on the Hill, Leicestershire

Finalists

The Falcon at Fotheringhay, Northamptonshire
The Willow & Brook, Apethorpe, Northamptonshire
The Blue Ball, Braunston, Rutland

The winner is The Stag & Hounds at Burrough on the Hill – a genuine, friendly and down-to-earth village pub that also offers accomplished, seasonal cooking.

Head chef and co-owner Dom Clarke arrived at The Stag & Hounds from Lancashire in late 2019 and has transformed the pub into a culinary gem serving the likes of rump of local lamb with baby gem lettuce, fresh curds and shepherd’s pie; and garden gnocchi, house pickles, caper butter sauce and Parmesan cheese. Dom uses plenty of local game in his cooking as well as herbs and vegetables grown in the pub garden. And with the Parish microbrewery next door, the Stag & Hounds is hard to fault.

On our visit, everything was well presented, beautifully cooked and delicious.

All four Finalists are fantastic village dining pubs. However, The Stag & Hounds takes the title of Great Food Club Dining Pub of the Year 2020/21.
