Casa Romana, Leicester

Casa Romana is a family-run Italian gem tucked behind a green door in Leicester’s city centre. Known for its simple, rustic and authentic dishes, it has built a loyal following since opening in the 1980s. The founder, Roberto, set high standards for traditional Italian cuisine, and those values continue under Francesco, his protégé, who took over in 2013.

The menu focuses on honest, Italian-through-and-through food using the best ingredients. Expect Venetian-inspired specials, freshly baked focaccia, and, if you’re lucky, Francesco’s signature sgroppino al limone. Dishes include pollo alla romana, penne all’ arrabbiata, paillard di vitello, aubergine parmigiana and filetto tartufato.

Regulars praise its warm service and consistently delicious dishes. GFC member David sums it up: “Once you discover Casa Romana, you’ll keep going. The food is fresh, filling and delicious – a true change from chain restaurants.”

Casa Romana is proof that simplicity, tradition and passion create an unbeatable dining experience. A true hidden gem in Leicester.
