Founded in 1879 by George Cavner, Cavner’s has been serving fresh fish to Leicestershire and Rutland for over 140 years. Now in its sixth generation, the business is still proudly family-run. Today it’s led by Neil Cavner (who took over from his father in 2000) and his sons, Alex and Dan.
Cavner’s combines time-honoured traditions with modern tastes. While classic fishmongery remains at its core, the team now also offers easy-cook dishes like handmade pies, BBQ kebabs, boneless game roasts and fresh fish cakes. Cooking advice and recipe inspiration are always on hand.
The shop receives fresh deliveries from ports across the UK daily – from Newlyn to Aberdeen – plus twice-weekly shipments from Rungis Market in Paris.
In 2023, Cavner’s underwent a full refurbishment, adding a new retail area alongside its wholesale operation. Order online or pop in Tuesday to Saturday to browse their superb counter and chat with the knowledgeable team.
