Coosh Microbakery has been serving the good folk of Mapperley, Nottingham since 2022. Whether it’s the small batch breads, pastry delicacies or homemade cakes, the locals can’t get enough.
It’s a far cry from a few years ago when co-founder Rachel Egan worked in corporate life. She had a need to do something different, and after a day spent at The School of Artisan Food, a new career path started to take shape.
Initially, Rachel, supported by her husband Tom, slaved away in her own kitchen producing sourdough breads and distributing them through Facebook groups. But once the opportunity to take on the unit in their hometown emerged, Coosh in bricks and mortar form was born.
When Rachel first started Coosh, it was open two days each week, but now the bakery is up to four days and still selling out. They have a loyal customer base who enjoy watching the bread get produced and buying it when it’s still warm. Often it’s coming straight out of the oven into the customer’s bag!
They are producing high quality products, with no additives or improvers. Whether it’s fresh bread, bagels, fruit pies or brownies, all their products are made from scratch on-site by hand. They pride themselves in the slow production methods to get the best outcome.
If you’re in Mapperley, definitely stop by for a coffee and a cake. But make sure you get there early otherwise the locals will have already bought everything!
