Fred Hallam
Fred Hallam is a greengrocer and fishmonger based in Beeston and has been serving locals for more than 100 years. We paid this busy shop a visit recently and were extremely impressed by the array of produce available and the excellent customer service.
The shop is now run by brothers Miles and Andy Hallam and it’s possibly the best greengrocers/fishmongers in the East Midlands – and almost certainly the oldest surviving.
When we popped in we were tempted by the new season English russet apples, fresh horseradish, wild halibut, whole bream (scaled and gutted), fresh wild samphire, Notts-grown cavelo nero, Chanteney carrots from Newark, Bomba paella rice from Valencia, mooli and wild foraged bluebutton mushrooms. There is just so much choice and plenty of inspiration if you’re feeling a bit flat in the kitchen department.
Pay them a visit and see for yourself.
