David’s Bookshop on Eastcheap in Letchworth Garden City is a real community hub. It’s the blend of 4 businesses from the record shop, to the book shop, to gifts and the cafe, all under one roof. It was originally founded by the Armitage Family in 1963 and the family are still involved today. This business now runs as an employee-owned trust, helping it maintain its independent spirit while keeping it closely connected to the Letchworth community.
The bookshop offers tens of thousands of new and second-hand titles alongside gifts and games, and the music shop has thousands of vinyl records, CDs and DVDs. This space has become a destination in its own right, attracting collectors and hosting in-store performances, as well as maintaining an unpretentious atmosphere for casual browsers and enthusiasts alike.
The café ties everything together: pop in for teas, coffees, cakes and scones plus soup and sourdough rolls. Whether you’re a cultural aficionado or you’re just out shopping and looking for a peaceful place for a nice brew, David’s is a lovely choice!
