The Horns at Bulls Green, near Datchworth, is everything you’d hope for from a traditional Hertfordshire country pub, with centuries of history, good food and a warm welcome.
Mark and Corinna Butcher have been the driving force behind this characterful pub, which dates back to Tudor times. With its exposed oak beams, open fireplaces and cosy snug, The Horns has retained much of its original charm.
Food is a big part of the appeal. The menu features traditional British pub favourites, including the popular Butcher’s Burgers, alongside daily specials and hearty Sunday roasts. Behind the bar, you’ll find well-kept real ales, often including beers from Hertfordshire breweries, plus a good choice of wines and gins.
There’s also a fascinating story about the pub’s resident ghost. Legend has it that Walter Clibbon, an 18th-century highwayman killed by local villagers, still haunts the building.
With a lovely beer garden overlooking the green, The Horns is equally appealing for a summer lunch or a winter evening beside the fire.
