Bury Lane Farm Shop & Cafe, Royston

Bury Lane Farm Shop & Café is a thriving, multi‑generation family-run business in the north east corner of Hertfordshire. There has been a family farm there since the 1940s and the site has been in the Clayton family since the 1950s. Jeremy Clayton really moved things on in 1983, turning a PYO orchard and caravan stall into Bury Lane.

Today, it’s Jeremy’s son Will in the hot seat and modernising the business. The farm now grows asparagus, strawberries, seasonal flowers and pumpkins for both the commercial market and pick-your-own. There’s a huge food hall with fresh fruit and veg, ingredients, wines, beers, ciders and much more. Plus there’s an in-house butcher and fishmonger. Much of the meat is sourced locally or from East Anglia and is all free-range. The fish comes from Billingsgate Market but you have to act fast as it’s only available Thursday-Sunday.

The café is open daily and offers big hearty breakfasts, lunches and snacks including vegetarian and vegan choices and seasonal specials.

This is a very impressive family business and continues to thrive!
