The Devonshire in Belper

The Devonshire in Belper dates back to the 18th century. It is run by punk-rock frontman turned Derbyshire entrepreneur Martin Roper, who relaunched the venue in 2018. He has swiftly turned it into a strong all-rounder, with a menu that has something for everyone, and a bar that serves a fantastic array of drinks.

The feel of the pub is great, too. Despite it sitting on the A6, you quickly leave the bustle of the main street when you walk in, and the atmosphere takes over.

Choose from classic pub meals, international dishes, sharing platters and sumptuous burgers. Drinks include craft lagers, ales, ciders, and a wide variety of wines and spirits.

We hadn’t pre-booked and the pub was bustling, but the friendly server quickly found us a spot and we ordered. Our burgers arrived soon after. They were outstanding, served with fries and a side of allotment salad with foraged herb dressing. We washed them down with beer and cider, impressed by the affable, attentive service.

It’s a bustling venue with a fun atmosphere, perfect for all groups – families, friends, couples, cyclists and dog walkers alike. You’ll enjoy the outdoor area if it’s sunny, and the adjacent car park is convenient.

The Devonshire in Belper is one for your ‘Pubs to Visit’ list.
