The Hand & Heart in Nottingham isn’t your average pub. Not at all. This pub is built into sandstone caves that date back to Saxon times. It’s an atmospheric place with plenty of cosy spots to sit and enjoy some home-cooked food (we recommend the Sunday lunch) or a pint.
Real ale and cider are always on offer – much of it locally-sourced – and the pub has its own house brew called Heavy Handed. This copper coloured bitter was developed by the team at Dancing Duck Brewery in Derby. There’s a cellar full of fine wines plus cider and plenty of spirits. Whatever you like to drink, they’ve got it.
Foodwise, The Hand & Heart keeps things classic and crowd-pleasing, with a mix of small plates, pub mains, burgers and simple desserts.
For sharing, small plate options include miso-stained mushrooms with cream sauce, buttermilk coated chicken fillets with bourbon BBQ sauce, layered chorizo and prawns with lime dressing, a brie wedge with smoked bacon and caramelised onion purée, rosemary focaccia and hot honey halloumi.
Main courses cover pub favourites and a few bolder flavours: steak and ale pie, hand-battered market fish and chips, slow-roasted lamb shank, pistachio-crusted chicken breast and salmon piccata. There are also burgers (including a buffalo-coated chicken burger and the Hand & Heart smash burger) plus a pan-fried hot honey halloumi main.
Lunch offers lighter options such as a smaller portion of market fish and chips, a chicken Caesar salad, a BLT on rosemary focaccia, brunch focaccia, and hot honey halloumi.
The pub also serves Sunday lunch.
