Sister pub to The Sheaf Inn in West Haddon, The Olde Red Lion offers a fine balance of good quality pub cooking and relaxed country pub charm. Built in 1830 from Northamptonshire ironstone, it has bags of character, with two cosy public bars and a stylish dining room. Owner Luke Bavester has created a warm, welcoming space where you’re just as likely to find a perfectly kept pint of Phipps as you are a beautifully plated curried cod loin or flat iron steak.
The menu showcases local sourcing and skilled cooking, with standout dishes including pork and apple scotch egg with proper pickle, brisket lasagne with white truffle béchamel, and Thai green curry.
During our visit, we enjoyed a pint of Northampton-brewed ale and a well-made black pudding scotch egg. From the bar to the plate, there’s care in every detail. Monthly quiz nights and open mic sessions add to the pub’s lively community spirit.
