The Ashford Arms

Longbow, who run The Maynard at Grindleford and The George at Hathersage, acquired The Ashford Arms in 2023 with the aim of bringing it back to its former glory. After 3 years of closure, the team invested heavily in an internal and external refurbishment to this 17th Century property. Owner Rob Hatterley sees this as an important part of the local Peak District economy and hasn’t compromised on quality.

Although the finish and the aesthetic of The Ashford Arms is top notch, friendly and welcoming is the vibe they’re going for. And this commitment translates to both the pub restaurant and the rooms.

Executive Chef Adrian Gagea and Head Chef Chris Parker ensure that the food is all homemade on site and uses local Peak District produce. When it comes to meat, for example, they only use suppliers who raise and nurture their own livestock through traditional farming values. Food suppliers include Ginger Butchers, RG Morris & Sons and Winster, whereas drinks come from Thornbridge, Peak Ales, Shining Cliff and Roastology amongst others.

The menu is very broad, but full of European classics. Starters include caramelised onion & apple scotch egg, gin & pink peppercorn salmon gravlax and wild mushroom & truffle arancini. For main course, options include steaks, pies, burgers and fish and chips, but also teriyaki salmon, pan-fried duck breast or pappardelle with mushroom and truffle.
