Holly Bush Inn

The Holly Bush Inn in Makeney epitomises everything that’s wonderful about traditional British pubs. It’s a beautiful old building, it’s full of charm & character, the service is friendly, dogs are welcome, their beers are very well-kept and the food is home-made!

The pub dates back to the 17th century and has been at the heart of the community for hundreds of years. It was reportedly a haunt of Dick Turpin in his time. Now, though, you’ll mainly find locals, dog walkers or hikers enjoying a pint and a bite to eat.

Chris and Alex have been running the pub since 2017 and have focused on developing the food and events side of the pub whilst retaining its community feel. The décor is homely, there are three roaring fires and a beautiful enclosed patio garden. Plenty of photos and memorabilia from yesteryear adorn the walls, and you can feel the history all around you.

Pub snacks are served all day long, including award winning pork pies from the local butchers. The menu is full of home-cooked favourites such as cobs, soups, pies, burgers or fish dishes. Roasts are on the menu any day of the week too. Why wait until Sunday?

A regular in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide, there is a rotating list of local ales and big name classics. They also host bi-annual beer festival with over 25 real ales and live music. Well worth a visit!
