The Remarkable Hare

The Remarkable Hare is a friendly pub in the centre of Matlock serving great local beers and tasty pub food. An open fire awaits you in this classic pub, which is very dog-friendly. 

The pub has recently changed hands and is now being run by partners Michael and Kerry Thompson, who also run a couple of other eateries in the county. Literary artworks adorn the walls with upcycled glass bottle lighting – the furniture is modern, heavy wooden pieces. Staff are extremely friendly and very knowledgeable about what’s on offer, or if they don’t know, they’re more than happy to find out! 

The Hare, as it’s locally known, offers a range of regular cask beers from a selection of fantastic local breweries, as well as a great gin menu and of course other all other notable tipples. Here they serve classic pub food such as Bangers & Mash alongside dishes such as Beetroot Falafel, Dipped Beef Sarnies, Risotto and Fish Finger Sandwiches. All food is freshly cooked and served with flare. There’s something for everyone on the menu including light bites like soup or fried halloumi. Food is served from 12 noon until 8pm.

The Sunday Roasts at the Hare are absolutely delicious and we can wholeheartedly recommend the pork belly, the chicken and the beef. Roasts are served with marvellous mash, roast potatoes, a selection of delightfully buttered vegetables and rich gravy, all of which you can request more of at any time. Sunday lunches are served in the large and airy function room and are accompanied by ambient live piano from local musicians. 

Remarkable Hare host a variety of entertainment and have board games on the windowsills for all to play. A perfect place to stop after walking the Derbyshire Dales.
