The Chubby Castor
Adebola Adeshina has been on a culinary journey through London, Essex and Richmond, honing his skills along the way and garnering awards before decanting to the Cambridgeshire village of Castor to start his own restaurant.
Castor is a delightful village located around five miles from Peterborough, with honey-coloured stone houses and a beautiful thatched 17th century Grade II-listed former pub, The Fitzwilliam Arms. The Chubby Castor is housed within this characterful ex-pub.
The cooking here is excellent and uses the best quality ingredients. On our most recent lunchtime visit we started with mackerel escabeche, aubergine caviar and Lilliput capers. For main course we enjoyed hake with braised fennel, cauliflower purée and curried shrimps – the latter providing the perfect lightly spiced finish to a beautifully cooked piece of fish! The meal continued on a high with burnt custard with orange cake and spiced orange segments.
I am certain that chef Adebola will continue to pick up awards and that more and more people will become fans of his wonderful cooking!
