The Orator

You’ll be drinking and dining in the company of some rather notable figures – both past and present – when you step inside The Orator. Some of these figures are more controversial than others and you can discover more when you visit. The brasserie and bar remains very much part of the Cambridge Union Society and has only recently been opened up to the public.

The Union has been in existence since 1815 and is the oldest debating society in the world and is still used by students who come to take part in lively discussions and listen to some of the most engaging speakers there are. Prime ministers and presidents have all walked these floors and recent speakers have included Stephen Fry and Robert De Niro.

Whether you’re here for lively discussion or just fancy a catch up with friends, The Orator gets top marks – the recently renovated interior is stunning and while it feels like a real treat, drinks and food is reasonably priced for this area of the city. Kick off with cocktails (a Bellini perhaps?), enjoy a spot of dinner and finish off with a whisky. You might even leave smarter!
