The Red Lion

Sleepy West Deeping is a small, well-cared-for south Lincolnshire village that’s lucky enough to have its own pub, and the handsome Red Lion is clearly making a real effort in every area. This freehouse offers keenly priced, good quality home-cooked food, well-kept ales and a welcoming, cosy atmosphere created by a small family team headed by Gino and Vikki Gioia. It’s a classic English village pub in a lovely setting.

We were contacted by a Great Food Club member and Red Lion regular who highly recommends his local, having experienced it first hand under various regimes over the past 20-odd years.

“We recently had dinner for two by the open fire,” he told us. “To start, I had a fishcake with a poached egg on top – their poached eggs are superb. My wife went for the 28-day matured 9oz rump steak. Their chunky chips are to die for and they offer the skinny alternative too.

“Everything is cooked to order, the service is cheerful and unobtrusive and there are usually four real ales on offer – London Pride plus guest beers from local breweries. The pub is also child friendly.”

Outside, The Red Lion has a patio area with a large enclosed play area with climbing frame and slides. There is also a paddock.

Member offer:

10% off the total food bill from Monday to Thursday only. Or two main courses and two soft drinks for just £16 on Friday evening. A maximum of four diners per Great Food Club card. Good value, well run and friendly Always pop in when we're in the area, guaranteed friendly staff and locals to accompany good value food, cooked from scratch, washed down with a local Deeping or Oakham ale. Top drawer.
