West Deeping is a small, well-cared-for south Lincolnshire village that’s lucky enough to have its own pub, and the handsome Red Lion is clearly making a real effort in every area. This freehouse offers elevated pub dining, well-kept ales and a welcoming, cosy atmosphere created by head chef Fraser King, his wife Emma and their team.

Great Food Club editor Philip Seaman says: “The food here is very good indeed. Frazer is a talented chef.”

Frazer has an excellent CV, having worked in London, Edinburgh, at The Gunton Arms in Norfolk, at The Olive Branch Clipsham and at Barnsdale Lodge near Oakham. His food is local and seasonal and he’s linked up with local suppliers including Grasmere Farm to make a bespoke Red Lion sausage. Beers are local too from the likes of Hopshackle Brewery.

Outside, The Red Lion has a patio area with a large enclosed play area with a climbing frame and slides. There is also a paddock.
