Yello Yard Nottingham

Yello Yard brings Caribbean baking and bold, comforting food to Sneinton Market in Nottingham. Mahalia and Jowayne started the business at the end of 2020 after returning from London and finding that Nottingham offered plenty of good food but limited variety in Caribbean cooking and baking.

Patties sit at the heart of Yello Yard and are made on site, although they often sell out quickly. The team also serves Caribbean fillings in sandwiches, making dishes such as slow-cooked oxtail chilli cheese easy to pick up and enjoy. This combines 12-hour braised oxtail with Scotch bonnet honey and sharp cheddar béchamel, creating rich flavour with a gentle heat.

Other dishes might include curry mutton, jerk mac pots, cornbread and delicately spiced peach cobbler. The menu changes as new ideas emerge from the kitchen.

There is limited seating, but Yello Yard has an arrangement with the neighbouring Fox & Grapes, allowing customers to use its outdoor tables. It is a distinctive independent business with warm service and cooking worth seeking out in this lively corner of the city.

At the time of writing, opening times are Wednesday – Saturday, 11am – 8.30pm.
