Drink Producer of the Year: Great Food Club Awards 2020/21

Winner

Braybrooke Beer Co, Braybrooke, near Market Harborough, Northamptonshire

Finalists

Brentingby Gin, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire
White Peak Distillery, Ambergate, Derbyshire
Napton Cidery, Napton, Warwickshire

The winner is Braybrooke Beer Co for its impeccable range of lagers.

This specialist lager brewery on a farm near the Leicestershire/Northamptonshire border has only been brewing since 2018 but has created beers that stand out for their crispness and satisfying, rounded flavours. These beers are a world away from the mass-produced brews that have given lager a bad name in the UK.

Before launching Braybooke, co-founders Luke Wilson, Nick Trower and Cameron Emirali liaised with German brewing legend Stephan Michel, owner of Mahr’s Bräu of Bamberg, Germany (founded 1670). Stephan gave the trio his knowledge and expertise, and supplied plenty of inspiration. This has been taken forward by Braybrooke head brewer Mario Canestrelli..

Their decision to specialise in high-quality lager, brewed to traditional German techniques on specialist lager kit rather than on equipment designed for ale-brewing, has led to an exceptional range of products.

All four Finalists make brilliant drinks, but this year’s Drink Producer of the Year is Braybrooke Beer Co.
