Brewhouse Coffee, Wheathampstead

When Lester and Sue Adams took control of the Brewhouse in 2020, they had no idea that the country was just about to go into lockdown. Their dream of running a neighbourhood café was almost over before it started. However, the small matter of a global pandemic wasn’t going to stop them. They refitted this Grade II listed building themselves, and sold milkshakes, wraps, ciabattas and cakes as a takeaway service to thankful Wheathampstead locals.

But despite the tough start, Brewhouse Coffee is now flourishing! Lester’s baked goods are building a reputation throughout the local area. The pastries, cakes and cookies change regularly and locals can’t get enough of the Oreo brownies, caramel apple slices, Aero rocky road or any of his other wonderful creations. And not only that, the coffee is Brewhouse’s own blend!

Situated on Brewhouse Hill, it’s a favourite haunt of local families, cyclists and folk with laptops looking for a quiet place to work. The layout is excellent – lots of nooks and crannies over 3 floors, decorated really stylishly.

So whether you’re just wandering up the hill on a dog walk, or needing to find a spot to get some work done, then Brewhouse is for you. But trust us, you’ll struggle to leave without taking a few pastries home!
