The Three Horseshoes (AKA The Winkwell) sits right next to the Grand Union Canal near Hemel Hempstead. It’s a beautiful Grade II–listed pub dating back to 1535.
The location is a huge bonus. Whether it’s a cold crisp day in winter, or a beautiful summer’s afternoon, this is a lovely spot to relax and watch the canal boats drift by. And if you time it right, as a boat approaches, the entire road swings round to let it through. We defy anyone not to be impressed by this feat of engineering!
Inside, it’s a beautiful pub, with old tiles, a gorgeous fireplace and little nooks and crannies for kids to chatter and dogs to snooze.
The menu includes pub classics such as fish & chips, steaks and burgers. Plus halloumi salad or mushroom stroganoff. But it’s definitely worth popping in on a Sunday because the roasts are superb!
