Chatsworth Estate Farm Shop

There’s no doubt about it, Chatsworth Estate Farm Shop is one of the best of its kind in the UK. It is fantastically well stocked and run, but its biggest asset is probably its local sourcing policy, with many items coming from Chatsworth Estate and its tenant farms (over 60%), and almost all of the rest from small Derbyshire producers.

With Chatsworth being home to a number of livestock farms, much of the meat on the butchery counter is as local as you can get, including much of the beef, lamb, venison and pheasant. Many fruit and vegetables, meanwhile, are supplied by Tomson’s of Buxton.

Head to the bakery section and you’ll find a fine range of breads, tarts, cakes and biscuits, all baked on site, while the deli counter showcases 104 different cheeses, plus pies, quiches, patés and more. Temptation also comes from locally produced jams, handmade chocolate made by Holdsworth’s of Bakewell, a specially selected Chatsworth wine range, and beers brewed on the estate by Peak Ales. The fresh fish counter is an unexpected bonus, and the shop is home to a café, too.

The Chatsworth Estate Farm Shop was established by the Duchess of Devonshire in 1977 to sell beef and lamb from the estate farms, plus venison from the park. Since then the shop – like Chatsworth House and its grounds – has evolved and flourished.
