Craft & Cleaver, St Albans

Craft & Cleaver has earned a loyal following having a created an authentic southern-style BBQ experience and a lively, relaxed setting. Their BBQ ethos is looking everything low and slow over cherry, maple and hickory wood. With restaurants in both St Albans and Hitchin, founder Adam Richardson has built one of Hertfordshire’s best-loved independent restaurant brands. Inspired by barbecue traditions discovered on road trips across the southern United States, his vision has always been to pair exceptional smoked meats with great craft beer and warm hospitality.

The menu is unapologetically indulgent. Smoked brisket, sticky ribs and pulled pork are all cooked with patience and care, while towering burgers, loaded fries and buttermilk fried chicken ensure there’s something for every appetite. The burnt ends are a must if they’re available, while the house-made sauces and carefully chosen craft beers complete the experience. And one thing that you should definitely try is the pickle-back – a Craft & Cleaver tradition!

Whether you visit the original St Albans restaurant or its Hitchin sister site, you’ll find the same passion for authentic barbecue, generous hospitality and memorable food. When the craving for proper low-and-slow cooking strikes, Craft & Cleaver is hard to beat.
