Day’s Bakery, Baldock

Day’s Bakery is a business that has been going for nearly 300 years. It was founded 1741 in nearby Ashwell and is one of the oldest running bakeries in the country. It has been run by family members until 1996 when Howard Day sold to the Dorrington family.

It is now a thriving business across 13 sites in Herts and across the borders to Essex and Cambridgeshire. The Baldock branch is an excellent example of a neighbourhood bakery. A busy place on the high street with loyal customers stopping by regularly for baguettes, sourdoughs and farmhouse loaves. Plus there’s plenty of deli products on sale, and you can even stop by for a breakfast or lunch too.

As the company expands, it’s also introducing bigger delis, farm shops and even butcheries into the mix. It’s great to see an historic business evolve with the times and grow!
