The Holly Bush is a traditional country pub in the Hertfordshire hamlet of Potters Crouch, just outside St Albans. Dating back to the 17th century, this Grade II listed building has long been part of the local community.
At the helm is Scott McLaughlin, a classically trained chef with 20 years’ hospitality experience, including time at London’s celebrated Langan’s Brasserie. Specialising in French cuisine and wood-fired cooking, Scott brings considerable restaurant experience to this historic village inn.
His approach combines traditional pub favourites with more ambitious cooking. Dishes such as pappardelle ragù and leg of lamb showcase the kitchen’s strengths, while generous Sunday roasts are a particular attraction.
Inside, original features, oak furniture and wood-burning stoves create a warm, welcoming atmosphere. It’s equally suited to a leisurely lunch, an evening meal or simply enjoying a pint at the bar.
There’s cask ales, a good wine selection and ample back bar, and there is a lovely garden out the back for those summer months.
The Holly Bush combines the character of a proper Hertfordshire country pub with the food credentials of an extremely talented chef. Definitely recommended!
