Farr Brew has been a Hertfordshire favourite since 2014. Its founder, Nick Farr, started his brewing career in 1999 and has always been a lover of great ale. When his old friend Matt Elvidge brought his sales skills to the business, the duo combined brewing expertise, commercial nous and bags of enthusiasm. The perfect recipe for success.
Farr Brew was founded on the principles of creating great tasting real ales brewed with craft and a commitment to quality. And there’s an excellent range to choose from. The core range includes ‘Farr & Away’ (a DDH pale); ‘Farr Apart’ (a dry-hopped Mosaic); ‘Porter’ (complex and chocolately) and ‘Rusty Stag’ (a 2018 Christmas copper ale that just keeps on selling!). But no mention of Farr would be complete without a nod to ‘Golden’, their original recipe that hasn’t changed and is still a perfectly balanced and eminently quaffable!
A year into their business and Farr Brew started to get noticed. A good showing at local beer festivals and with beer writers, their reputation was spreading. They decided to raise funds to move to a new facility in Wheathampstead. And after a refurbishment it included a 10-barrel brewery, tap room and bottleshop.
They also own 6 pubs across the region and that number will doubtless continue to rise. All are worth a visit for the food and a great range of Farr Brews on tap.
They are now in their new site near Redbourn. It’s much bigger and gives them huge potential to scale up production. Plus there’s a lovely taproom where you can watch the process happening while enjoying a pint or grabbing a few takeaways.
There are even plans for a vineyard too. We’re betting the business will spread Farr and wide!
