Prime Steak and Grill has restaurants in St Albans, Berkamsted, Chandlers Cross and just across the border in Beaconsfield. Prime has been business since 2014 under the leadership of long-time business partners Terry Greenhill & Ferdi Pacelli. They were already partners, running Zaza Italian restaurants, but after various trips to New York, they realised there was a gap in the UK market for upscale steakhouses.
The Berkamsted restaurant is the newest branch, opening up in 2023, joining Herts siblings St Albans and Chandlers Cross. Although each branch has its own general manager and chef, the overarching direction comes from Jamie Robertson, Group Executive Chef, who has worked in Jamie Oliver’s and Gordon Ramsay’s restaurants. Their goal is to provide the quality of a London restaurant, without the train journey.
At the heart of the menu is ethically reared Scottish beef, dry‑aged and expertly grilled to perfection. Whether your taste is for a rump, sirloin, rib eye or fillet or even a sharing steak like Chateaubriand or Porterhouse, there are options for every steak fan. And if you’re not a huge steak lover, there are still plenty of choices such as lamb chop, chicken parm or pan roasted cod. Or go big with the Prime Wagyu Burger. But if you can, leave room for a dessert: the crème brulee and warm pecan pie are both fantastic.
This is a polished place, stylish and serving excellent food; but with relaxed, friendly service. Perfect for a special occasion; or just because.
