Fika

We have been visiting Fika for some time. It is local, independent and very good – all top criteria for a Great Food Club entry.

Fika is actually a concept based around taking time out to enjoy good coffee and kanalbulle (cinnamon buns). Swedish buns called Semla are also so, so good – try the almond ones. The coffee is excellent: smooth, well flavoured and rounded. Nordic loose-leaf and super teas (teministeriet.com) should also be tried – they’re top quality.

Brunch offerings include smoked salmon, dill mayo, or prosciutto, Jarlsberg and pickle. We enjoyed ours on a drizzly spring Saturday followed by more coffee. Live music features periodically on Saturday evenings – see the events page on their website for details.

Not only that, the cafe plays host to a fabulous homeware shop at the back where you can browse some lovely bits, sourced directly from Scandinavia and often not available anywhere else in the UK. All in all, this is a great place to chill out.
