Set beside the railway line in Oakham, Two Chimps Coffee, has built a strong reputation for approachable speciality coffee, careful sourcing and genuine customer care.
The business operates from a beautifully restored industrial building filled with original timber beams, exposed brickwork and the constant smell of freshly roasted coffee. A mezzanine floor overlooking the roastery has transformed the space into more than simply a production unit. Today it hosts coffee tastings, barista training, roasting demonstrations and blending workshops that attract visitors from across the country.
Everything here revolves around freshness and consistency. Coffee is roasted in small batches by hand on-site, with the team constantly adjusting the roast depending on conditions such as humidity and airflow. Beans are sourced from small farms and estates through trusted importers who work directly with growers, with sustainability and long-term farming support playing a major role in buying decisions.
Despite the technical side of specialty coffee, Two Chimps never feels intimidating. Coffees are given playful names, staff are welcoming and the atmosphere remains relaxed and down to earth.
Founders Laura and Andy Shead started the company nearly ten years ago after leaving careers in wedding photography to pursue a growing passion for coffee. Since then, the business has steadily expanded its wholesale, subscription and events operation while keeping its independent family-run feel firmly intact.
It is the sort of business that combines serious knowledge with warmth and personality – and that balance is a large part of why customers stay loyal.
