There isn’t room to quote all the glowing phrases that have been written in national newspapers and food guides about Rutland’s Hambleton Hall. Safe to say that this hotel/restaurant is one of Britain’s best – consistently named as one of the 20 finest places to eat in the kingdom, according to The Sunday Times Food List.
Hambleton Hall is also regularly named in Condé Nast Traveller magazine’s annual ‘Gold Standard List’, the publication’s all-time favourite restaurants, hotels and bars in the world.
The restaurant here has held its Michelin Star since 1982 and Harden’s says current head chef Aaron Patterson’s cooking is “brilliant, ingredient-led and up-to-date” and “as good as any in the capital”.
The hotel has also been awarded the overall British AA Wine Award.
With a spectacular location overlooking Rutland Water, this Victorian building was converted by proprietor Tim Hart into a hotel with 17 double bedrooms in 1979. Its interior is elegant and supremely comfortable.
When our Leicestershire editor Tim Burke ate at Hambleton Hall, he said: “Settling down by the blazing fire in the drawing room, squadrons of staff glided around the room with grace and subtle skill. The dining room exudes old-school country house luxury and on all levels Hambleton Hall is a pleasure.”
