There’s no kitchen at this free house, so we’re not including The Five Horseshoes for its fine dining. We’re recommending it because it has bucketloads of charm, a brilliant selection of cask ales, and is basically a fantastic traditional village pub.
What’s more, it often invites top quality food vans to park next to its lovely garden (with play area) and cater for guests. On our visit a high quality burger van provided delicious locally sourced burgers. A pizza van is the most regular visitor.
Inside you’ve got all the elements you need for a brilliant rural pub: ancient flagstone floors, wood beams, curious knick-knacks, a roaring log fire, well-kept local cask ales, a rustic bar area, owners who take pride in their work, and a warm welcome. Unsurprisingly, The Five Horseshoes has become a hub for the local community and is revered by its regulars and its fans.
If you’re passionate about ‘proper’ pubs, this is one for the connoisseurs.
