Gelato Village was founded in 2014 by Antonio De Vecchi and Daniele Taverna who are both natives of the Piedmont region of Italy. That’s also the birthplace of the Slow Food Movement – an ethos that has inspired their business. The milk used to make the gelato comes from a herd of Jersey, Holstein and Montbéliarde cows at Vine House Farm in Great Dalby.
The gelato is made fresh without artificial colourings, flavours or preservatives and, at the Queens Road shop, you’ll find plenty of delicious flavours of gelato and also authentic affogato – gelato with a shot of hot espresso. Waffles are also a real treat and made to a secret recipe. Naturally, coffee is a big deal and only the best is served here – it comes from coffee supplier, Caffe Vergnano which started life as a small coffee shop in 1882 in Turin (where Antonio and Daniele were born).
