Herb

Part of the Kayal Group, Herb puts Keralan vegetarian food in the spotlight in this sparkling restaurant in the heart of Leicester. A former amusement arcade, it was transformed in March 2018 with beautiful artworks, sympathetic lighting and a colour scheme full of dark green and copper tones.

The food is based on traditional blends of herbs and spices, and with most being vegan, nut- and gluten-free, the menu will appeal to those who enjoy healthy eating. But best of all, the food tastes marvellous – fresh, clear flavours make the most of herbs and spices and also allow vegetables sing out clearly.

Watch out for the Herb Platter, with marinated and grilled vegetables such as aubergine and asparagus with heavenly chick pea fritters, and tangy bowls of chaat with crispy flecks of pastry balanced with soft potatoes, tangy tamarind sauce and creamy yogurt. There’s a wide range of dosas, pancakes made from fermented lentils and rice and filled with spiced vegetables, and plenty of curries, too. Fully licensed, this is a smart, uplifting venue in which to enjoy some outstanding food.
