Kayal, Leicester
The GFC team recently paid a visit to Kayal on Granby Street, Leicester and found the flavours to be authentic and irresistible! It was founded by Jaimon Thomas in 2004 – Kayal was almost an Italian restaurant, but luckily Jaimon listened to his mother and opened this great South Indian restaurant instead. There’s three other branches of Kayal including one in Nottingham, plus a sister restaurant called Herb on Granby Street.
Jaimon says: “People are drawn to our seafood dishes, dosas, and vadas” and we’d have to agree – we enjoyed quite the feast and while the seafood is surely the star of the show, vegetarians and vegans have plenty of options, too, including Kathrika Curry (aubergines) and Nair Masala Dosa (rice and lentil pancake). And make sure you leave room for dessert – the Banana Roast sounds divine.
