Lussmanns, Hitchin

Lussmanns in Hitchin is part of a cluster of restaurants across Hertfordshire. And it has siblings in St Albans, Hertford and Harpenden too.

But Founder and Managing Director Andrei Lussmann wasn’t always from Hertfordshire. He studied in Birmingham and then worked across the hospitality sector before opening his first place in London in the early 2000s. Although things didn’t quite work out there, he decided to move to Hertfordshire and Lussmanns really got going! Now with 4 in Hertfordshire and another in Woburn, Lussmanns continues to thrive.

Lussmanns is all about relaxed, ethical dining on the high street. And as the business grows, two things remain consistent: firstly that everything on the menu is made with exceptional ingredients grown and produced with care and respect. And secondly that the restaurants are ones that Andrei himself would want to eat in!

Since the business started, Lussmanns has focused on sustainable dining by championing local sourcing and promoting organic, high-welfare farming. All their fish is MSC-certified and the restaurants are run on green energy.

The menu changes with the seasons but are reflective of the best UK ingredients available at that time of year. Not only is there a full a-la-carte menu but also a competitively priced local’s set menu too.

Giles Coren described Lussmanns as “everything a modern local restaurant should be”. And it’s hard to argue with that!
