Measures Butchers

Who doesn’t love a pie? And if you want a proper pie that’s full to bursting with filling, head to Measures in Brampton, Huntingdon. This excellent butchers is run by Peter and Christine Baughen who have been in business since 1984.

The couple has won lots of awards and it was early on that they starting getting a reputation for their pies. Christine has got a long list of accolades for her steak pies and many regard them as the best in the country (Peter has his fair share of awards, too, for his sausages).

Pies include: Beef & Bombardier – steak pie with mushrooms and Charles Wells Bombardier bitter;  Steak & Stilton – British beef, sautéed in beef dripping in a rich beef gravy and combined with creamy fresh Stilton cheese and Steak with Mushrooms & Red Wine – beef steeped in red wine and finished with sliced mushrooms.

And there’s more! Steak with Onions – British chuck steak with fried onions in rich gravy; Traditional Steak & Kidney – a classic and popular choice; Creamy Chicken & Mushroom – fresh British chicken thigh meat cut with fresh cream and mushrooms and, finally, the star of the show – Brampton Pie – ham carved off the bone and fresh chicken thigh meat steeped in a rich cream sauce with a layer of sausage meat.
